Gerlach House
2,655 m a.s.l. · High Tatras
120 m² · 4 bedrooms · 2 bathrooms + WC · living room on the ground floor · up to 8 guests
A house that looks out at Gerlach.
The living room is on the ground floor, so from the sofa by the fire you step straight onto the terrace. Coffee in the morning, a fire in the evening, and the Tatras in the big windows in between. Three bedrooms are upstairs and the fourth is downstairs: right for grandparents, for friends, or for whoever wakes up first.
Peak: Gerlach House
Gerlach is the highest peak in the Tatras and in the entire Carpathians (2,655 m), yet for a long time nobody knew it. Kriváň was thought to be the king of the Tatras, and only in 1838 did the forester Ľudovít Greiner identify Gerlach as the highest. After that the peak changed its name along with the borders: in 1896 it became Franz Joseph Peak, in 1923 Legionnaires' Peak, in 1949 Stalin Peak. It got its old name back, after the village of Gerlachov at its foot, in 1959. No marked trail leads to the summit; you can only climb it with a guide. In the evening you can admire it without a rope: from the terrace, with a mug of tea.
